OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH
In Forestal Atlántico Sur we consider the Safety and Health of our people and of everyone directly or indirectly related to our activities to be of the utmost importance. The company has implemented a system, coordinated by prevention technicians, oriented to the care of occupational safety, well-being and health risks of the personnel who works in the field. Our system encompasses everyone, each and every one of our employees and contractors are committed to take care of their own safety as well as their co-workers’. We treat safety management as a continuous self-improvement process which materializes in a systematic process of risks identification, assessment and control which requires the participation of everyone, reason why it is mandatory.
Safety training and dissemination
We make strong emphasis on the training and awareness rising of our personnel and the people living in the area where we develop our activities. A continuous follow-up of the work conditions and facilities is performed in all the sites where operate. Continuous training and teaching is done and the exchange of experience among contractors is promoted. All observations and incident records are processed systematically in order to obtain statistics which allow the detection of issues which require special attention. If there are accidents, a relevant investigation is carried out to reduce future risks. We have a Continuous Training Program structured according to the detected needs. The objective is clear: self-protection; we want every individual involved to embrace safety measures as a VALUE. Therefore, families and communities are included in the orientations, because we believe that safety starts “at home”.

At Forestal Atántico Sur we follow a hard but rewarding path: convince ourselves and each other that every one of us is responsible for our own health. Our motto is “I protect myself because I care about myself. I protect my peers because I care about them. Safety regulations are not imposed, they arise from me as a value”

FIRE PREVENTION
FORESTAL ATLÁNTICO SUR has addressed the prevention and control of forest fires as one of the most important issues in its management plan, and for this reason an expert on the subject works in permanent collaboration with the company.
Since 2007 we have been implementing an integral plan which encompasses the definition of contingency plans for each area, the supply of equipment for all our sites, the instruction of the company’s employees and contractors and the training of workers in the work sites. In addition, the company has established cooperation agreements with other forestry companies sharing a common influence area, joining efforts for surveillance and immediate response in case of fires. At present, negotiations are being carried out to increase the coordination and cooperation in several zones.
