SOCIAL COMMITMENT
In order to accomplish a harmonious integration of the company in the social environment, FORESTAL ATLÁNTICO SUR carries out an Extension Program at local community level.
A key activity is the “Schools Project”, focused on schools being the core of community dynamics. In the framework of this project there are informative presentations for teachers, students and members of the community; informative leaflets about forestry activities and promotional products of practical use are distributed, and support is given for the improvement of the social conditions or capacities.
Other initiatives of the Extension Program, channeled mostly through local organizations, include events assistance, group orientation, as well as other contributions of interest for the community.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), also referred to as business for social responsibility (BSR) can be defined as a company’s active and voluntary contribution towards a social, economic and environmental improvement with the objective of enhancing their competitive situation and their value added. The measurement of the joint performance of the business in these areas is known as the triple bottom line.
Corporate social responsibility goes further than the observation of laws and regulations by taking for granted their supposed respect and strict compliance. In this sense, work legislation and the environment-related regulations are the starting point of environmental responsibility. The compliance with these basic regulations is not equal to Social Responsibility, but they are the obligations every company must fulfill just by carrying out their activities. It would be hardly understandable for a company to allegedly perform CSR actions when it has not complied or does not comply with the corresponding legislation for their line of business.
What is business for social responsibility? Business for social responsibility (BSR) is the contribution to a sustainable human development, through the company’s commitment and trust towards their employees and their families, towards societies in general and towards local communities with the aim of improving the social capital and the quality of life of the entire community.
Our company is strongly committed to an active, ethical and positive involvement with the communities located within our areas of influence, making an effort to integrate in the existing social fabric as an actor who can contribute with the community’s development goals, respecting the cultural values and norms of this network. Special efforts are made to mitigate the negative impacts caused by the appearance of a relatively new productive activity which now coexists with traditional production methods carried out for a long time.
