Certifications
Our company has been certified according to the Principles and Criteria of the FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council™), and therefore a responsible management of our forests is our commitment.
FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL FSC™
In the year 2006 FORESTAL ATLÁNTICO SUR started the forestry certification process under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC™), committing to comply with the good forest management principles established according to the international standards of the organization.
In August 2006 the company was awarded the Chain of Custody Certification under the modality of FSC™ Mixed Credit System. This certification includes the commercialization of both roundwood and timber processed in the company’s chipping mills.
In February 2007, GUANARÉ S.A., holding company of the sites managed by FORESTAL ATLÁNTICO SUR was awarded the Certification of Forestry Management. The certified area comprises four management units, located in the provinces of Canelones, Lavalleja and Cerro Largo.
In July 2007 the certificate for the “Certification Group FORESTAL ATLÁNTICO SUR” was obtained and the company became its Administrator under conditions agreed among the members of the Group. The certified area comprises several management units of different producers located in the center and east of the country, in the provinces of Durazno, Florida, Lavalleja and Rocha.
To date, the Certification Group Forestal Atlántico Sur consists of 18 members who manage 21 Forest Management Units (FMU) located in the provinces of Lavalleja, Rocha, Cerro Largo, Durazno, Florida, and Maldonado.
FSC™
-FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council™): FSC™ is an international, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests, encouraging an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management.

Principles and Criteria (P&C): the FSC™ Principles and Criteria (P&C) describe how the forests have to be managed to meet the social, economic, ecological, cultural needs and rights of present generations without risking those of the generations to come.

Certification: FSC™ certification provides a mechanism for companies, organizations, and communities to demonstrate their commitment to the FSC™ Principles and Criteria for responsible forest management.

Certified products: FSC™ certified products are verified from the forest of origin (Forestry Management) through the production chain (Chain of Custody). The FSC™ label ensures that the forest products used are from verified and responsibly harvested sources.
